1) What is Love Works weekend? It’s the weekend that we won’t just go to church — we’ll BE the church. On Saturday, March 26 and Sunday, March 27, we’ll be the hands, feet, and heart of Jesus, sharing His love with our surrounding community through concrete acts of service. After our weekend of service, we will re-gather at Central Peninsula Church in Foster City at 5pm on March 27 for a family-style type refreshments and a worship celebration. Our regular 11am services at CPCMillbrae will not be held.
2) Why are we doing this? Because worship is an action verb. We are called not to passively absorb, but to actively give back — through praise and prayer, through communion and fellowship, and through service to those around us. True worship means putting our faith into action, so that the world will see the difference that knowing Christ makes. Keep these three words in mind as you prayerfully prepare for Love Works March 26-27, 2011: Attentive. Intentional. Potential. By seeing needs and responding in love, by serving others and living our calling, we not only make a difference. We make disciples.
3) What kinds of projects are available? All sorts! You can serve at a homeless shelter, landscape a school or a paint rooms at HIP housing for displaced families, pour concrete, participate in a musical worship service at juvenile hall, sort food at a local food bank, assemble bag lunches for the needy. You can also help out in the Missions area to pack food for an orphanage in Honduras. There are projects for all ages and skill levels, including some you can do on-site at CPC. There are also family-friendly options for those with small children. And if you are not available on the weekend of March 26,27 there are a few projects that need volunteers on Saturday, March 19. There’s something for everyone!
4) What is the schedule for the day? Times may vary — check the Project List for specific meeting times for each project when posted. Re-gather at 5:00pm at CPCFC on March 27th to enjoy a lite refreshment provided by CPC and spend time together in celebration.
Remember: There will be no 9am, 11am service on March 27th at CPCFC and no 11am service at CPC Millbrae.
5) How do I sign up? Register at the Love Works tables in the Connection Center when informed to. Volunteer openings will close up early, so register early to get one of your top preferences! Registration closes on Sunday, March 20.
6) After I’ve signed up, what happens? You can count on hearing from your Project Leader via email or phone by the end of February-mid March. Your leader will fill you in on tools or supplies you might need, directions, parking, etc. If you have any questions after that, your Project Leader is your point person.
7) What is a Project Leader? A Project Leader is the volunteer in charge of each project site. Their job is to ensure a positive experience for those serving as well as those being served.
8) What about kids — can we bring them along? Yes! We want to teach our children that we can worship God through our service to His people. And kids can make a great contribution to the service project, provided the project matches their maturity and skills.
9) Is this only for members of CPC, or can I invite my friends to come? All are welcome! We encourage you to invite friends, neighbors, and co-workers to join us in serving our community.
10) What happens if I have a family emergency or change in plans, and can’t make it? Or what if there’s bad weather that day? If your plans change and you are not able to volunteer, please contact your Project Captain immediately so that someone else may take your spot. In the case of bad weather, some project sites have indoor activities as a back-up plan, but most outdoor sites do not. There is no rain date for LoveWorks Sunday, so pray for good weather!
11) Do we need to provide any tools or supplies for these projects? You might, depending on the project. Your Project Leader will know if and what tools and supplies will be needed.
12) What should I bring? In addition to any necessary tools or supplies, please bring sunscreen or a hat (if working outside), water, and any other personal items you might need during your shift. Also remember to wear appropriate work clothes.
13) I don’t have access to a car. Can I get a ride? Please let your Project Leader know if you need a ride, and he or she will help arrange transportation to your project site.
